She was offering 5 for 100 and it suddently made me wonder what would be the margin she makes? 10 or 20 Nepalese rupees? How many do you have to sell one day to make ends meet? and how many do buy five pouches in one go??Journomusehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03637288687087961594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099822287006472886.post-19601848180662207742012-04-05T16:50:27.316+05:302012-04-05T16:50:27.316+05:30The post has a very Tolkenish feel to it Deeps; yo...The post has a very Tolkenish feel to it Deeps; you beautifully captured the vibrant and magical energy of the place :)Meena Kumarinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099822287006472886.post-51760422379367492702012-04-05T13:41:43.074+05:302012-04-05T13:41:43.074+05:30A thoughtful post by a wanderer who looked for the...A thoughtful post by a wanderer who looked for the soul of a lost town in its crevices and corners and the faces of its people. Your observations such as the ones on the symbiosis of Hinduism and Buddhism that only Nepalese understand, and the slap of garish paint crying Coca Cola amidst the splendour of temples, pagodas, shikharas, dragons and gates, are profound.umashankarhttp://uspandey.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099822287006472886.post-43891182415742669272012-04-05T12:26:34.760+05:302012-04-05T12:26:34.760+05:30Debajyoti, if you ever decide to take a trip to Ne...Debajyoti, if you ever decide to take a trip to Nepal, ensure a day trip to Bhaktapur from Kathmandu is part of the itinerary. I think that's what hit me most. People living in these really old buildings, solid because they were built at a time when things were only built that way. But that was all that was ever done.. remember those gorgeous victorian houses and castles in britain. Today they are modern abodes, with modern trappings and the heritage preserved..here that heritage is still providing sustenance.. Sad, but true..Journomusehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03637288687087961594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099822287006472886.post-80751127037427149362012-04-05T11:22:29.158+05:302012-04-05T11:22:29.158+05:30Zephyr: True, but I guess this soul-searching happ...Zephyr: True, but I guess this soul-searching happened because I guess this is my first visit to a nation where Indian currency is premium and preferred too! So far travels have been just about discovering the beauty of places that so far have only been visited through books. Suddenly, I was in a beautiful city - a place where royals can still descend in their splendour and walk through the Durbar square in a parade and they would hardly feel out of place. Those that are, are the locals living there now..peddling a past to make ends meet in the present...:/Journomusehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03637288687087961594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6099822287006472886.post-65818136528774526102012-04-05T10:09:29.915+05:302012-04-05T10:09:29.915+05:30Interesting narration and lovely pictures. 'the local population have largely learnt to ignore the invasion of their privacy' is so true. They live in squalor behind imposing facades and eke out a living. The traders are outsiders, who employ the locals at a pittance. I can understand your unease and your behaving like a 'tourist'. Travelogue with a heart :)zephyrhttp://cybernag.innoreply@blogger.com
