Its been ages, wonder if at least a few of you who added me on your subscription list remember. I have been a bad bad girl! I make these wild announcements of Life 360 and what not and then disappear without a trace. My friends, Lazy Pineapple and R's Mother have been sweetly coaxing me back but trust me, it wasn't lack of inspiration or lovely encouragement that kept me away.
It was work! ( Now where have you heard that excuse before?!!)
But since June 21st, the day I published my last blog, I have been places, done things and unlearnt a few truths, gone on the backfoot, stretched myself a little too much for comfort, had one too many bumps and bruises and what not...
So much to tell you, so little time.. The coming months are likely to be hectic too according to my zodiac forecast, now why is it that when I'm looking for doomsy forecast, I turn to the Hor(ror)scopes??
Its one hour to midnight my time and I'm determined to ensure that my next post is logged in for 13th September. Why the 13th if its not Friday?? Well, 13 is still a 13...wickedly mysterious, vaguely discomfitting and when combined with Friday, positively ominous..
However, there is something the horrorscopes missed...The smell of Freedom..
After months of letting my work, think my thoughts and key my words, this evening I broke free... when I sealed the envelope on the courier that contained my blood and sweat of two months, there wasn't a sense of bubble burst that I felt, it was more like a sigh of the freed!
Am I rambling today? Kind of like all over the place?? Well that's a peek into the real me..the me behind the facade of Journomuse..I'm a rambler, and especially when I'm free of fetters, of worries of having to sound sensible and precise. For the last two months, that is what I have tried to be...precise, error-free and dot-on-time. Now I have the time, there are no deadlines to chase and time is my buddy. And from somewhere nearby, the smell of freedom wafts by..
And do I have a twitchy nose?? Like a little puppy, I'm going to chase the smell down.. It smells of treats of little bite sized bitter chocolate, of time for books and big mugs of coffee, for secret browses through guilty pleasures...lots of fun and laughter..and snuggling under the blanket not having to wake up if I so please... It's the life! :)
Now that also means you shall hear from me more often...there have been a few travels...some new experiences... I shall tell you about it all...for now, sit back and smell that smell...that smell of Freedom...
You know how Freedom smells to me...how does it smell to you??
Write in, let me know...I'm waiting..Blogging is fun when you tell me too..and then we shall discuss and maybe the next time I smell Freedom, I shall smell a bit of your favourite smells too..
PS: That photograph was taken on one of the journeys to South Mumbai...watching the Sunset by Marine Drive, that's some experience..that smells like freedom too...:)
Much love,

Much love,
Oh good to see you back:)
ReplyDelete:) Rahul I yaaaam back!! How went your travels??
DeleteYes, have already posted about my NZ tour:) Hope to see you more!
DeleteOhh wow...need to check it out...I am planning to head there before the year ends!!
DeleteWelcome back!!! I just came back here last week, assuming you had written something and that didnot show up on my google reader :-)
ReplyDeletenevertheless glad you are back! and yes work, that does keep us away from so many things, and you know what, that's NOT AN excuse. It is a perfectly fine reason!
So well freedom, that would mean to me, getting up when I want , swimming when I want, eating what I want, reading books when I please, and ofcourse the salaray checks not interrupted flow into my account :-) basically doing what i want, but earning good too!
And that pic, I first thought it was from google, but what a click! marvellous. One can actually feel freedom by just looking at it!
Jenny: Hmmm, I like how you define Freedom! :) Though shouldn't freedom also mean not having to worry where the currency notes find its way into your wallet from?? I guess that's being too Utopian, eh?? As for the pic, I promise that all the photos that shall follow from this post on, shall be mine and mine only!! Have so much to share..:)
DeleteI came here at this hour just to mark my presence and let you know that you were missed!
ReplyDeleteFreedom shall be discussed at leisure ,will be back when less sleepy :)welcome back !
Sharmila, Lovely to connect again and I'm sorry, I know I'm the one who has been 'far busy for her own good!' :) But I'm back and I look forward to discussing Freedom when you are less sleepy!! :) hope the pearlies are flashing white as ever, doctor! :D
DeleteHey Journo ! please know that you were missed and am I too glad to see you back sniffing your freedom ! Yes ofcourse.
ReplyDeleteFreedom to me is hvaing a large cup of tea in hand , a friend to chat with ,both of us not looking at watch ,doing small things without any sense of urgency ,reading all that you want whenever you want ,having a thought process uninterrupted by any external agency .
Well as for money ,i dont bother much.
Thank you so much for the sweet message Kirti..:) I love what Freedom represents to you, you know what, these days my best friend and I do try to find time out of all the madness that envelopes our lives to do just this..:)
DeleteAll right, whatever it was that summoned you back to this earth deserves a big thanks! Although I wish you were more direct about what you sealed in that envelope that contained your blood and sweat of two months!
ReplyDeleteAnd hey, you don't talk freedom to a banker who has to attend the office even if one of its branch offices operating in a dusty corner of the country is open! That neatly takes out the fun of all holidays including Holi, except for the 'National ones'. It is akin to flashing lollies at a starving child. I congratulate you on your freedom, nevertheless, whatever it means.
Sirji, over the next few days, you shall realise what was it I was doing over the last two months. I plan to make that a new series. And I promise this time, the series won't be disrupted. It is all ready to be chapterised..:)
DeleteYou know what, my mom was a banker and seeing her leave home at 9AM dot and return by 5.30 in the evening (good old days!) I used to think that it was a profession that ran by the clock and she got most of the holidays, while for the journo me, everyone sitting at home on a holiday meant we had to be at work earlier than usual because those are the days when people are in front of the TV! :D
Yaaay you are back to writing! :D Right now I am sat at my friends balcony in Brighton and see the sea and little dots of light; cars, ships afloat. And the summer breeze smells of freedom! and also of nostalgia. Nostalgia smells of clove cigarettes :P
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! Oh my God, Lord Fauntleroy has posted a comment..I'm sure the nostalgia hit so hard that your fingers moved of its own volition to type the comment!! Miss you too Satticus!! :D
Deletehmpf! Finally...Errr...why is that picture so familiar?? wonders and wonders and it strikes me why :)
ReplyDeleteyayayayayay! you are back!! yipeeeeeee..*does a little jig*
I hope you duly noted the acknowledgement of the pressure exerted to return that you subtly applied..:) and yes! Bingo..that's EXACTLY where you have seen the phota (like you Gujjus say..;) before..:D
DeleteFinally you are back :) good to be reading you. Freedom to me smells like the salty ocean breeze and also of Popcorn.
ReplyDeleteI know that is a weird combination but that is what came t my mind when i thought of freedom :)
My smell of Freedom would be salt popcorn and maybe rained out earth..:) that's wierd too..you go water, I go for soil..:)
DeleteTo me the definition of freedom reveals a lot about your character depending on how you define it.
ReplyDeletefor me, it is this.
Freedom of thought, because I like to pretend I am some sort of pseudo philosopher.
Freedom to love, because I am in love with a beautiful polynesian girl and I hope my parents never find out.
Freedom of movement, because I would like to visit Kerala again soon.
Hmmm..you have given something to chew over.. I'd say Carpe Diem... Go for Freedom and embrace it wholly..
DeleteFreedom of thought - its because you are unfettered that you realise the pseudo and don't consider it your Aristotlean moment! :) To Love - Anil, my man, freedom to love will come when you give it the space to breathe..However if it is the illicitness of loving behind your parents' back that thrills you, then you are FREE? Do you realise that?
As for Kerala, can I make you a bit extra jealous and say I'm off for a month in Kerala within two weeks?? Just in case it gives you that spurt to break the shackles and claim your freedom!! :))
Hey, glad that you are back. Feels good to read you again after almost two months...As of now, my definition of freedom is to be able to read you whenever I want to...:):)
ReplyDeleteNow why is that my favourite definition of Freedom?? :)
DeleteOne last thing. I just read your malaylalee stereotypes post funny as hell. When I meet North Indians here in New Zealand, They instantly know that I am from Kerala due to my obvious surname.
ReplyDeleteI am almost empted to say how my parents hoave chosen the Nair surname as a homage to that atrocious hair Removal product.
Almost.....
I am looking forward to reading your other posts. Keep on being awesome.
Haha, I remember seeing Nair Hair Removal Cream in Singapore..:)
DeleteThanks Anil..:) Look forward to hearing more from you..
Good to see you back! :)
ReplyDeleteYour freedom sounds so beautiful. For me freedom means just one thing - to be able to do as I please at the very moment I want to do it. That includes sleeping in or reading in instead of working when I please, eating what I want to when I please. :) Freedom is different things for me at different times.
You know the kind of elastic Freedom that you talk about is the best kind there is...:) :) :)
